CAPACITY BUILDING FOR STAKEHOLDERS, PRODUCTIVITY AND RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

Capacity BuildingGenerally, Sub-Saharan Africa faces a human resources crisis and it is more inherent in the health sector, most especially in our country Nigeria. Over the past two decades, our population has increased substantially, with a significant rise in the disease burden due to HIV/AIDS and recurrent communicable diseases. Also witnessed is an increased incidence of non-communicable disease which has led to an increased demand for health services with a rather low supply of competent and highly skilled health workers. One of the major focuses of all in addressing this ugly development in the Health sector has been capacity building and development among all practitioners in all the critical areas of concern particularly the Health Insurance and Managed Care sub-sector.
Successful business leaders world over are well aware of the benefits that is made available to them when they invest in their greatest asset- their employees.
It is no secret that when you offer the right training to your employees your organization grows and Investing in the area of training for staff, inevitably enable them to contribute more, perform better, and excel in their respective roles. Their performance directly affects their productivity and service.
Furthermore, investing in the training of your employees does not only increase productivity, but reduces the time wasted in handling official assignments.  It also delivers significant impact on staff motivation and the overall development of the organisation.
The positve relationship between training, productivity and good return on investment in corporate organisations can no longer be over-emphasised.
To this end, The Institute for Health Insurance and Managed Care of Nigeria has developed various training programmes which  utilizes several dimensional  focus approach to ensure that all organisations in the Health Insurance and Managed Care Industry reduce their lost or wasted time and most importantly, guarantees employee satisfaction, increased productivity and consequently enhanced return on investment.
The Institute for Health Insurance and Managed Care of Nigeria is an academic Institution and a professional body approved and registered with the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Institute was born out of the desire to see a more radical change in the growth and development of the health sector in Nigeria away from the worst healthcare statistics been recorded over the years in the sector. According to the World Bank report, the public spending per capita for health is less than USD 5, and this can be as low as USD 2 in some parts of Nigeria. This is a far cry from the USD 34 recommended by World Health Organization for low income countries within the Macroeconomics Commission Report.  These among others informed the World Health Organization ranking our country Nigeria 187th position out of 191 countries evaluated in year 2000 and the subsequent focus of all on Health Insurance as a key factor to the much desired improvement in the healthcare delivery system. The establishment of the institute is also as a result of a definite drive to make more significant progress in addition to all that has been done by all other stakeholders like, the Federal Government, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the various Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), and the healthcare providers e.t.c. The Institute has been mandated to carry out the following:
